Get on facebook: Everyone is praising that father who shot his daughter’s laptop.

I’m probably going to get shit from people but I posted: This video about the father shooting the daughter’s laptop makes me incredibly uncomfortable, but not nearly as uncomfortable as the number of people missing the fact that it’s abusive. “Hey I have a gun and will use it to destroy your property that you paid for because I don’t like that you express yourself, however negatively!” Really people? as a status.

I just really don’t understand how people don’t get this? And why you would cheer someone on who is directly using violence to scare his kid into not talking?

Because I will tell you from experience: Parents who get that uptight about their kids complaining about them on facebook generally have a reason to not want the kids to talk.

Do you know how many screaming fits have happened in my house because of this? Because my sister posted something like “I’m never going to be good enough”—which is so vague that no one would even know who she was talking about? And then she gets grounded for weeks and my dad explodes at both of us because “Family stuff does not go on facebook”?

I kept my mouth shut about all the shit going on at my house until I moved out and found a way to express myself without being constantly scared that it would get back to my dad. This kid had a post where she complained about her parents to her *friends* on her locked facebook, and her father hacked her facebook and then violently destroyed her laptop in order to publicly humiliate her and force her to not say anything else about their home life online.

Good parenting is not violently reasserting yourself as dominant and showing your kid that you are not afraid to use a weapon to keep them under your thumb. This fucker should be getting a visit from CPS instead of being praised as a goddamn hero.

Hm. Alright, words can’t express how upset this post makes me so I apologize for the anger and asd;lkfajsd;kl that is about to follow.

Sorry, but did you actually watch the video? And first of all, humiliate her? You mean the way she humiliated her parents? The way she disrespected her parents is completely and absolutely unacceptable. Especially since the only thing they made her do is chores. Oh no, call the cops they made her do chores oh dear heavens me they must be awful and beat her with a switch! No, it was just chores and she was ungrateful, which granted, every teenager is like that at some point, but the fact that it happened in the past and he gave her fair warning that it would be worse if she did it again, and then still did it again means, at least to me, that he has every damn right to do whatever it is he sees fit.

The bottom line is she was being a bratty ungrateful teenager and he was asserting himself as the parent and teaching her a lesson. You realize he could’ve put the bullets in her? Or beaten her? Or done a whole lot of other things worse than destroying her laptop? Which he paid for? Parents have become far too lenient in terms of discipline in recent years and as someone who was spanked and punished as a child, I believe in it. No, I don’t think you should hit your child until they’re red and raw or should humiliate them if they act out in public, but when they disrespect you or disobey you, how else are you going to teach them? “Oh honey, no no no don’t do that, here have a cookie.” No. I’m around people constantly at both my jobs and I’ve noticed how carefree parents have become with their kids and all I can do is sit there and think “oh my God if my kid did that they’d sure as hell never do it again” and I’m making myself sound like some awful person who beats children, but my point is discipline is discipline and if it isn’t dished out, they don’t learn.

And another thing, as a parent, he has a right to know what his child is up to on the internet. Yes, privacy is important, but so is monitoring your kid and making sure they’re not doing shady things. All through high school my step dad monitored my internet history and I can only think of twice that him and my mom approached me with things I said/did and after we talked it out and I was grounded in some way, I didn’t do it again.

Sorry dude, but I just really don’t see what this guy did wrong. I don’t think it was violent and I don’t think it was any sort of abuse. The things she said about her parents upset me more than him shooting the laptop, to be honest.
